Inscribed on the inside collar of the United States mens national team’s new jersey is the phrase “Don’t Tread On Me,” which was made famous more than two centuries ago after being included on some of the initial United States’ flags. Nike brought the phrase to modern times when they created a special “Don’t Tread On Me” US jersey before the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Apparently, FIFA referee Jorge Larrionda didn’t get the memo last summer.
Of course when the founding fathers coined the phrase, I doubt they had these abominable team strips in mind. While this may just be a photo of the new threads, I don’t know how much difference it will make seeing them on the field next Wednesday, when the United States hosts Mexico.
Whatever happened to last year’s 3rd kit? I’ll take blue with white pinstripes over white and grey bars with a little red mixed in any day. Let us know what you think about the new threads, send us an e-mail, 101Live@101Soccer.com.
