Sunday’s Aston Villa-Fulham Premiership match in London will have a red, white and blue feel to it. US striker Eddie Johnson is hoping to make his first appearance for Fulham after moving from Major League Soccer to the West London club last week.
Now it’s Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner’s turn to give this match even more Yankee flavor. Goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who is on the US roster for the upcoming Mexico game, just finished a trial in Glasgow with Celtic. But it appears he may be joining Aston Villa, after Lerner reportedly offered 4 million dollars for his compatriot, Guzan.
Guzan is undoubtedly an insurance policy if current starting goalkeeper Scott Carson does not make a permanent move from Liverpool to Villa.
101Soccer’s Englishman, Nigel McNeice, will be attending Saturday’s game at Craven Cottage, before boarding a bus back to Oxford just in time for Super Bowl pregame (about 11PM GMT) on SkySports and the BBC. What a day!
