Kicking In

No one be nieve here, if Thursday’s stifling Mitchell Report  events teach anybody anything, it’s that performance-enhancing is prevalent as ever throughout the sports world. Soccer ain’t exempt, there’s no question there are forms being excercised when domestic and international competitions can offer individual players three times the prestige and money in some cases than what the World Series generates.

But to the same level as what we now know about major league baseball? Prolly not. Point being, the whole soccer movement deal in the U.S. may have just picked up some interesting momentum in the wake of all this. Suddenly, the dorky goodie two shoes on campus isn’t looking quite so bad now that the homecoming queen has been rendered an all-out, oversexed ”sloot.”

That changes nothing overnight. But since this Web site is in the business of evaluating all things soccer-impact, what went down Thursday can only rub the sport right. And the hunch here is that MLB’s forever-infamous forray led by Mitchell will only in time trigger the next domino to fall over … the National Football League, anyone? Don’t want to get too far ahead in the game (unless it means skipping payment for the parking tickets piling up on this end), but THAT would usher soccer onto some particularly advantageous ground.
