A Rivalry Renewed

11.13.07 | Comment?

The US men have another friendly on the slate for 2008, and this one looks like a doozy.  The US Soccer federation announced today that two weeks after the US hosts Sweden in a friendly that will consist primarily of American-based, the Red, White and Blue will host Mexico in a rematch of the 2007 Gold Cup Final.  The game will be played in Houston at Reliant Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans.

Remember the last time these two met in Houston?  It was the first meeting between the US and El Tri since the Americans bounced Mexico out of the World Cup in 2002.  That night, Tim Howard was the starting goalkeeper and the teams played to a tense 0-0 draw.  El Tri may be hoping to claim revenge more than back in 2002.  We’ll have plenty more on this one during the Mexican Soccer Minute on Thursday morning at 9AM Pacific.

One other note, the United States named the new Women’s head coach today.
